God made man and all other living beings and pronounced everything that He had made to be very good (Gen. 1-2). Some believers may think that these biblical truths show that God esteems, regards, and values all His creatures equally.
Furthermore, they may think that because God is perfect, everything that He has made is perfect and therefore equally very good, valuable, and important. Scripture, however, teaches us that this thinking that reasons in these ways is not correct.
God Does Not Value All Living Beings Equally
Jesus plainly and directly taught that humans are more valuable and better than animals.
Matthew 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
Yes, God made man and all other living beings. Yes, He declared all that He had made to be very good.
No, as Jesus’ teaching clearly shows us, these truths do not mean, however, that God values all living beings equally and regards and esteems them to be all equally important. As difficult as it may be to understand and accept, the truth that God is the Creator of all things does not entail that God regards all the living beings that He has made to be equally good or valuable or important.
Conclusion
It is not true that God values all the living beings that He has made equally because He made them all and pronounced all that He had made to be very good.
We must be beware of unbiblical thinking about humans versus animals—God values humans more than He values animals and regards and esteems them as better than animals!
